Here's another thing I'm tired of:

The Underdog Role in sports.

After Game 1 in which he was simply ridiculous, Frank Thomas said "no one gave us a fighting chance."

After Game 2 in which he played a major role, Nick Swisher (best name in baseball, by the way) said "we came in and did the impossible, in most people's eyes."

Know what?

YOU ARE THE DIVISION CHAMPS IN THE AMERICAN LEAGUE WEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's like home-field advantage in the National League.

No one thinks you're chumps, or that you're the underdog. You're division winners, for christ's sake. These are not uneven odds. This line of motivation has to stop.

Tom Brady, after whupping the Bengals last Sunday, said that "no one gave [them] a chance." Seriously? Didn't you win three Super Bowls? Within the last 5 years? Knock if off!!! If you're in the playoffs, you're a contender, with every bit the chance that every one else has (except the Padres). Quit making it more than it is. No one is an underdog in the 2006 Baseball Playoffs. No one. Next you're going to tell me that you're taking it "one game at a time."

well said. i could not agree more. it seems like defining yourself as an underdog is more important than winning the game. on a sidenote. I went to the game on wednesday and i had to laugh and the vast amount of brand new hats, jersey's and other twins apparel. it's laughable how many "fans" come out of the wood work in october.

It's sick--I was there on Tuesday and everyone had a new-stitch smell. I was getting mean-mugged for wearing a Mientkiewicz jersey and a non-fitted Twins hat that I wore during the softball season. Media coverage gets bigger and bigger, too--KFAN now has "Twins Fanline" after each game of the playoffs. Where were they in May? There was no call-in show to talk solely about the Twins then, but you could yak Vikings all day long. I suppose all that's to be expected, though. All those "fans" are the same guys that will tell you that they predicted back in April that the Twins would win the division, and even when things were rough, they still said they would make the playoffs--ask all their friends, dude, they told them. You know, because they're die-hard fans and all...

i think the party was great, but i missed most of it by forgetting that i'm almost 27 years old and doing kegstands. we have to get together sometime soon. also, do you buy into this bull that brad johnson should be making more money? he's 38 and mediocre at best. and why is it that you can talk about the vikings 12 months a year, but twins only from september to october? this state sucks.

Brad Johnson is adaquately paid as it is right now. His nice little win streak he engineered last year came against on team with a winning record (NY Giants) in which he threw 2 INTs. 21 of the Vikings 24 points came in the form of 2 defensive TDs and a Mewelde Moore punt return for a TD. So all things being equal, the offense lost that game 21-3. So fast-forward to this year, and he's piloting an offense that is so far responsible for 2 TD's all year. Granted, that number should be a little higher, but red zone (I hate that phrase) penalties are murdering any chance of actually punching one in. So , no--Brad Johnson is getting paid right around where he should be.

Kegstands? I'll be 27 at the end of the month--maybe I'll see if I can pull that trick off....
